"The future depends entirely upon what each of us does every day; a movement is only people moving."  ―Gloria Steinem

NOTES FROM LEAH B:

This Labor Day weekend, please take time to thank a union member.  Historically, union members literally gave their lives so everyone could have better pay and safer working conditions.  Tomorrow the Delta Dems Cheer Group will meet near the Lighthouse in Ludington Park at 10 am to cheer on the parade.  Please join them if you are able.

Next, I want to give a special shout out and thank you to everyone who donated during August.  We raised $720, which means we will receive a matching donation from Indivisible National.

Finally, I know many of us are exhausted and starting to feel burned out, but I am asking you to push yourselves just a little more.  We are nearing the end zone with the November 3rd election only 2 months away.  This is likely one of the most important elections of our lifetimes.  We have many events scheduled between now and election day.  Take time to breath and recover, then rally again so we can keep pushing forward.

We are planning a protest in front of City Hall at 6 pm to show our support for this project.  After the protest, we can also attend the meeting, which starts at 7 pm.

March for Democracy

October 17th at Noon

In front of the fairgrounds, across from Gordon Food's in Escanaba

The next Indivisible National Event is on October 17th and is geared towards reminding people to vote and vote early.  We determine what comes next by who we vote for.  We will March from the fairgrounds (on the sidewalk) for about a mile and then back.  Bring signs reminding people to vote.  Bring signs with the names of your favorite candidates.

REQUESTS, INVITATIONS AND INFORMATION FROM OTHER ORGANIZATIONS:

From Delta Dems:

We have received word that Nancy Przewrocki, our long-time Delta County Clerk, is resigning very early in October. Judge Economopoulos will be appointing her successor to the position. We have no "guesses" who that may be. For many years, Nancy has managed our county elections, and it is no simple task.

We need to step up our expertise, presence and oversight in this absolutely critical election. The Michigan Dems has a full voter protection team and training for every role.

Please reply if you take training and plan to serve in one of these roles.

MDP: https://michigandems.com/voter-protection/

Can we count on you to join the fight? Let us know which of the following roles you’re interested in and a little bit about yourself, and we’ll follow up with next steps to get you engaged with the team. You can sign up for more than one role. Reach out to Jayce Bixka (jbixka@michigandems.com) with any questions you may have.

Roles:

  • Challenger: Observes Early Voting, Election Day voting, absentee ballot counting on and before Election Day. Active July 25 – August 4, October-November 3.

  • Activation Team: Use warm calls/texts to re-engage veteran volunteers for upcoming elections. Active NOW – November.

  • Clerk Engagement (Local Lead): Work with local clerks to monitor decisions, solve voter issues, and safeguard elections. Active year-round.

  • County Canvass Observer: Monitors post-Election Day process that determines official vote count and certifies results. Active August 5 – 18, November 4 – 17.

  • Ballot Cure: Help voters fix ballot or registration issues so their absentee ballot will count. Active July-November.

  • Voter Hotline: Answer calls and guide voters through information and procedures. Active June-November 18.

  • Research & Data Management: Provide crucial behind-the-scenes support to keep the program running smoothly. Active year-round.

WHAT IS DEEP CANVASSING?

Maybe you've heard of "deep canvassing" before or perhaps it's completely new to you. It's a voter contact method that shifts people's hearts and minds on an issue and/or candidate. It involves compassionate listening, personal story exchanges and crafting curious questions.

WHY DOES IT WORK? Research shows deep canvassing is 100 times more effective than traditional canvassing. (Yes, you read that right.)

It has a measurable impact on long-term persuasion, reducing polarization and increasing empathy — because it meets people where they are, not where we wish they were.

It’s a bridge to process people’s cognitive dissonance and connect new meaning to issues and/or candidates.

Click HERE to watch a short video that explains the value of Deep Canvassing. (Please note: At 5 minutes in, the SAVE act becomes the topic in the video. Our canvassing script will not focus on the SAVE act. It will focus on the mid-term elections and start with the voter’s thoughts about voting for Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate and downballot candidates).

ABOUT OUR TRAINER: Jill Murphy is the M1-10 Regional Organizing Director with Michigan Families for Fair Care, where she works to hold Reps. John James and Tom Barrett accountable around the Republican Tax law. She has extensive experience training people throughout Michigan in deep canvassing and in a variety of rural advocacy efforts. Jill trained with the Deep Canvass Institute with The People’s Action and with the New Conversation Initiative. She leads these deep canvassing trainings in her personal time, and this training is hosted independently of her employer. She will help us create our canvassing script.

Click HERE to register for this event through Mobilize. You’ll receive sign-on information by email a week before the event. Questions? Contact us at lsr-indivisible.org.

NOTES FROM INDIVISIBLE "WHAT'S THE PLAN?" NATIONAL MEETING (08-21-26):

The main topic of the meeting was the messaging we should be using to get out the vote, based on polling. The guest was pollster Celinda Lake.

The gist of it was that we need to pivot from culture war talking points (like trans women in sports or Hasan Piker)  and focus on tying affordability to corruption. We need to encourage all Democrats to "Vote Blue No Matter Who"...now is the time to present as a unified coalition...once we take back Congress, we can go back to fighting amongst ourselves LOL

3-MINUTE CALL TO ACTION:

The Trump admin plans to rescind the "Roadless Rule" that protects old growth forests in the U.S., potentially opening up 45 million acres of national forests to road construction, drilling and logging. Leave a public comment against rescinding the Roadless Rule here: https://www.regulations.gov/document/FS-2025-0001-223869

Your comment can be as simple as "I oppose rescinding the Roadless Rule. We need trees!" or can be a more personal note about your experience with national forests

The only required fields are name and ZIP code, but leaving an email address helps legitimize your comment. You do not need to leave a full address or phone number
