"The American people were appalled and outraged at last Tuesday's attacks. And so were Muslims all across the world...The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace." —George W. Bush, September 2001
NOTES FROM LEAH B:
MAGA Republicans are amping up their bigoted attacks against Abdul El Sayed and Muslims in general. If we are going to attack a billion people because of the actions of the extremists (who are a minority of the population) then we must also condemn all Christians because of Christian extremists and all Jewish people because of Jewish extremists. We must stand together against these bigoted attacks. Muslims are not the enemy; extremists are.
On another important note, diesel fuel skyrocketed to over $6.00 a gallon for the first time in US history. It was $6.19 a gallon in Escanaba on Friday. This will drive up the cost of everything, including food. As a result, we will be collecting non-perishable foods during our September 19th rally. Donations will be delivered to a local food banks.

Here’s your weekly roundup of election defense opportunities across Michigan:
Hands Off Our Vote
In 2026, we are building our strongest election protection program ever, in all 50 states. We're going to bring Indivisible's grassroots organizing force out to ensure that whatever tricks Trump and his authoritarian cronies try to hold onto power, we'll be ready.
Take a look at the Hands Off Our Vote toolkit to prepare your networks, learn what to do now, and review resources from across the movement.
Watch the Election Protection 101 and 201 training recordings if you weren't able to attend live.
Hold the Line On Detroit Votes
Community partners in education, disability, faith, and community organizing are working with election protection groups including the ACLU, Promote the Vote, and Michigan Voices, to build a community-led plan for protecting the 2026 election in Detroit. Together, we're preparing and training grassroots leaders and volunteers to respond peacefully and effectively if election interference occurs.
You also don't need to live in Wayne County to volunteer there, if you're in a neighboring county like Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, or Monroe, please volunteer in Detroit if you're able.
Volunteer to Protect the Vote with the ACLU of Michigan
Our partners at the ACLU of Michigan are recruiting democracy defenders to take shifts as poll workers, nonpartisan challengers, nonpartisan canvass monitors, and election protection hotline responders. Sign up here
Thank you for stepping up to protect our democracy.
In solidarity,
Indivisible Battlegrounds Team
Also from Delta Dems:
We have received word that Nancy Przewrocki, our long-time Delta County Clerk, is resigning very early in October. Judge Economopoulos will be appointing her successor to the position. We have no "guesses" who that may be. For many years, Nancy has managed our county elections, and it is no simple task.
We need to step up our expertise, presence and oversight in this absolutely critical election. The Michigan Dems has a full voter protection team and training for every role.
Please reply if you take training and plan to serve in one of these roles.

WHAT IS DEEP CANVASSING?
Maybe you've heard of "deep canvassing" before or perhaps it's completely new to you. It's a voter contact method that shifts people's hearts and minds on an issue and/or candidate. It involves compassionate listening, personal story exchanges and crafting curious questions.
WHY DOES IT WORK? Research shows deep canvassing is 100 times more effective than traditional canvassing. (Yes, you read that right.)
It has a measurable impact on long-term persuasion, reducing polarization and increasing empathy — because it meets people where they are, not where we wish they were.
It’s a bridge to process people’s cognitive dissonance and connect new meaning to issues and/or candidates.
Click HERE to watch a short video that explains the value of Deep Canvassing. (Please note: At 5 minutes in, the SAVE act becomes the topic in the video. Our canvassing script will not focus on the SAVE act. It will focus on the mid-term elections and start with the voter’s thoughts about voting for Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate and downballot candidates).
ABOUT OUR TRAINER: Jill Murphy is the M1-10 Regional Organizing Director with Michigan Families for Fair Care, where she works to hold Reps. John James and Tom Barrett accountable around the Republican Tax law. She has extensive experience training people throughout Michigan in deep canvassing and in a variety of rural advocacy efforts. Jill trained with the Deep Canvass Institute with The People’s Action and with the New Conversation Initiative. She leads these deep canvassing trainings in her personal time, and this training is hosted independently of her employer. She will help us create our canvassing script.
