"The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish." —Charlie Chaplin

NOTES FROM LEAH B.:

The midterm election results were not just a message to the Republicans. The sheer number of Democrats that won speaks loudly.

We also saw a number of Democratic Socialists of America win seats. We saw candidates who didn't have a lot of financial backing defeat candidates who had $10s of millions to campaign with. We saw candidates with little or no real political experience unseat seasoned politicians.

Americans are completely fed up with politics as usual. We are especially done with career politicians who put their careers, party, and corporate sponsors above the everyday person.

I have been seeing quite a bit of chatter from people who do not want Chuck Schumer as the Senate majority leader. They also do not want Hakeem Jeffries as the Speaker of the House. After giving it some consideration, I 100% agree.

Trump promised an America first agenda. He promised us a lower cost of living. He promised no new wars, and an end to the wars in Israel and Ukraine. Now, Americans are demanding that Democrats fulfill those broken promises. We are no longer willing to put up with politics as usual.

Just a reminder to the career politicians within the Democratic party. You may very well be next.

In other news, totally tone-deaf Trump has appointed Stephen Miller as his new chief of staff. In April/May of 2025, I warned Republicans that if they bent the knee to Trump and put their careers over people, they would be voted out. For many, that has now come to pass This appointment by Trump is worrisome on some levels. But in reality, it is the death knell of MAGA/ Those Republicans who continue to bow to Trump will be replaced in the next round of elections.

REQUESTS, INVITATIONS AND INFORMATION FROM OTHER ORGANIZATIONS:

 From Indivisible National:

Email your Democratic senator(s) now and demand they oppose a Schumer coronation.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team

You might be thinking….

Before taking action, you might be wondering, “what if my Democratic senator is retiring?” or “what if I have a brand new Democratic senator who hasn’t been seated yet?”

Retiring senators: Retiring senators might not have a vote in leadership elections, but they can still publicly call for an open leadership election -- and in fact, they might be the most emboldened senators to lead that charge. So it’s still worthwhile to contact them via our email tool.

If Schumer is your senator: The email tool above will only go to Senator Gillibrand but we highly encourage you to call Senator Schumer and demand an open, transparent election.

Incoming senators: If you have a new Democratic senator (congrats!), they don’t have an office yet, so they won’t be included here. But their voices are very influential! So the best way to reach out is by posting on social media and tagging them. This action has the added benefit of being public and helping build the groundswell.

Customize your message, congratulate them on their victory and use the hashtag #NoSchumerCoronation. Here’s a list of social media handles for incoming Democratic senators.

Sample: Congratulations on your victory, @jamestalarico! Your constituents voted for change, and that includes new leadership in the Senate. Please push for an open, transparent process. #NoSchumerCoronation

You can also use this toolkit with a few more samples (don’t forget to include the social media handle of your senator/senator-elect in your posts).

3-MINUTE CALL TO ACTION:

Email your Democratic senator(s) now and demand they oppose a Schumer coronation.

1. Call Senator Slotkin to tell her you support her call for new leadership.

2. Call Senator Peters telling him we want new leadership! Ask him to publicly support replacing Schumer.
