"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." ― Margaret Mead

NOTES FROM LEAH B:

1)  You may not be aware, but we operate on a shoestring budget.  I pay for our email address, website, and rental for our monthly meetings out of my own pocket.  Because Michigan is a battleground state, Indivisible National will match up to $800 in donations made through Act Blue in August. Unfortunately, so far this month we have only raised $40.  Help us reach that $800 mark!  You can use this link:  Stand With Delta County Unified‍ ‍

We are raising funds for a rally at Ludington Park on September 19th. We already have 5 speakers lined up. The campaign team for Abdul El Sayed will meet this week to decide if he will also come speak!

Any leftover funds from the rally will go towards the Battle of the Bands and/or other Delta County Unified events.  We have not given up on hosting a battle of the bands. We lost the venue we originally planned to use, but we are seeking a new venue.  Because of construction issues in Escanaba, we are looking to hold this event sometime this coming winter.

2) Reminder.  This Sunday the 16th I am hosting a fundraising dinner for State House Candidate Rachel Keys, with the help of Ed McMahon, Yvette Eagle, Shirley Goodrick, and Mike and Monica Peach.  We will be serving brisket, chicken, sides, and dessert.  This will be a great opportunity to meet Rachel.  We suggest a $30 donation.  Please rsvp to leahbelanger2012@gmail.com if you plan to attend.

NOTES FROM INDIVISIBLE "WHAT'S THE PLAN?" NATIONAL MEETING (08-14-26):
1) They discussed progressive primary wins including last week's guest Peggy Flanagan in Minnesota but also discussed the fact that we still need to support the centrist who won their primaries in the General! This is not the year for a protest non-vote...we MUST defeat the fascists.

2) They interviewed Patrick Roath who is challenging Sen. Stephen Lynch, incumbent in Massachusetts. Lynch as the only Dem to vote against ACA extensions, and also voted for the Lakin Riley Act and for thanking ICE. When constituents confronted him about his positions he heatedly interrupted them and said, “I get to decide that. I'm elected. I get to decide that. You want to decide that? You need to run for Congress.” So Roath decided to do it! Like most progressive candidates, Roath does not take corporate PAC money. If you'd like to contribute to his campaign: https://patrickroath.com

3) Leah and Ezra explained the "Delete DoorDash" boycott and why Indivisible is officially participating. DoorDash lobbied for a piece of legislation called the Taxing Authority Review Act, a congressional bill that would require explicit congressional approval for future local Washington, D.C. tax and fee changes, which undermines the district's local self-governance. DoorDash got involved because they opposed a local 20-cent per order food delivery fee meant to fund food assistance programs in D.C. Whether or not you agree with the fee, creating legislation that allows the federal government to intervene in D.C.'s local governance is not the solution, and also sets a terrible precedent. DoorDash also has been silent about ICE tactics that target their drivers, tactics that lead to the death of Johan Sebastián Durán

3-MINUTE CALL TO ACTION:

Boycott DoorDash and let them know why by calling customer support at (855) 431-0459 or emailing support@doordash.comto explicitly state your reason for leaving. Tell them we are boycotting until they 1) withdraw corporate support of HR 9720 (Taxing Authority Review Act), and 2) issue a public statement condemning ICE actions targeting delivery drivers, actions which have already lead to the death of one of their drivers, Johan Sebastián Durán
