October 18, 2025 No Kings 2
On October 18, 2025, Delta County Unified hosted one of the largest protests Escanaba
has seen in a number of years. Approximately 350 people attended the No Kings 2
protest on Lincoln and Ludington in Escanaba. The protest got its name as a tongue in
cheek response to Trump’s February 2025 Truth Social Post where he stated, “Long
Live the King,” followed by a White House mockup of a Time Cover Photo of Trump
wearing a crown.
Protesters are concerned by what they see as an unprecedented authoritarian
overreach by President Donald Trump. They are also unhappy with the permanent tax
cuts for millionaires and billionaires, while middle class and lower income citizens face
increased costs for health care, if the Affordable Care Act tax credits are allowed to
expire.
Protesters are also upset about the firing of agency watchdogs without proper
disclosure to congress, masked ICE agents terrorizing non-criminal immigrants
(including documented immigrants), the use of military forces in cities, and infringements on freedom of the press.
They are also concerned about the recent retirements of multiple Colonels and Admirals
following the political speeches by President Trump and Pete Hegseth to top military
leadership at the end of September.
Leading up to the No Kings 2 Protest, members of the White House, including President
Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson, declared the protest was a Hate America protest
and that those in attendance were violent antifa members and terrorists. However,
there was no violence or vandalism reported during the protest in Escanaba..
Delta County Unified is a bipartisan/cross-party organization. Their two-fold goals are to
reunite the citizens of Delta County to encourage engagement in civil discourse to find
real solutions to real problems, while also fighting executive overreach by the president.
